This Christmas will look very different for many South Australians.
COVID-19 has had a profound on every aspect of our lives. It has made things even more difficult for those already doing it tough, and now 1000s of people who have never needed to ask for help before are struggling to feed themselves and their families.
Demand for emergency relief at our Inner City site, including the Community Food Hub and WestCare Centre continues to climb. A staggering 500% increase since February.
When COVID-19 first hit in March the WestCare courtyard and dining room were forced to close and sadly remain shut. All meals are now served as takeaway.
“Coming to WestCare is a big part of my day. I miss being able to sit down and have lunch. But now we all chat while we’re waiting in line and with the weather getting warmer, it’s not so bad.” Steve, WestCare client (photo attached)
With your help, Baptist Care SA will rise to meet these challenges and ensure nobody is forgotten this Christmas.
We will provide gifts for over 350 children known to the WestCare Centre. Parents will be able to come into WestCare to select gifts for their children.
Demand for food parcels is increasing substantially. Festive food parcels will allow families to share a Christmas meal together.
And for those with no home, they won’t just receive a take away meal, we will be giving them a home cooked Christmas lunch.
