Citizens of the Year: Lesley Maxwell and Elliot Keane
A warm congratulations is in order for two deserving recipients in our Baptist community; on Australia Day this year Lesley Maxwell and Elliot Keane were each awarded Citizen of the Year for their respective communities.
For Lesley, this is a much-deserved recognition of her volunteer work with the HOPE Collective, her pastoral work with the Nipapanha Community, as well as her work leading teams of people from Whyalla Baptist Church and other local churches to serve within the Nipapanha Community.
“I believe as a Jesus follower I should show what Jesus did. I should love people, I should be compassionate, and show justice and mercy,” she said. “That’s why I do what I do.”
Elliot, who received the award for the City of West Torrens, was surprised but thankful to receive this brilliant recognition of his time serving the community through his work as a pastor at Richmond Baptist Church, his involvement in the Thriving Neighbourhoods Collective and work with the school leadership at Richmond Primary School, among many other contributions. Elliot also currently works as the Leadership Development Facilitator for our Baptist movement.
We pray that God continues to bless the work and mission of these two hard-working, passionate people.
