Dedicated volunteers make a real difference at WestCare
For the last few years, members of the Flinders Street Baptist Church have been running a sausage sizzle BBQ at Bunnings Mile End. They do this six or seven times a year and all funds raised go to support the kitchen at Baptist Care SA’s WestCare Centre. Every year, they donate close to $10,000.
Lloyd Evans has been the driving force behind this initiative. He has always been passionate about the work of the WestCare Centre and wanted the staff to be resourced and things to run well. Lloyd has also volunteered in the kitchen (and has even been known to do the washing up).
An inaugural Board Member from 2008 to 2011, Lloyd has a long history with Baptist Care SA. He was also an inaugural Director of Baptist Care SA Foundation from 2010 to 2011.
Now retired from his medical practice, in addition to coordinating the BBQs, he attends WestCare every Tuesday to tend the gardens.
Behind every great man is a great team –Lloyd’s wife Joan and another 15 or so members of the Flinders Street Baptist Church regularly fill the BBQ roster.
Baptist Care SA recently hosted a Morning Tea for Lloyd and his team, together with key staff from the WestCare Centre and guests from the Flinders Street Baptist Church. We wanted to express our sincere thanks for this wonderful contribution.
Lloyd has done an amazing job, and is keen to keep this initiative going, but needs additional ongoing support. Flinders Street Baptist Church is currently on the look out for extra help – if you’re interested, please contact them on T: 8223 4550.
