Forging Pathways from Adversity to Opportunity
Baptist Care SA has a proud heritage spanning over 100 years of working with, and on behalf of, the Baptist Churches of SA, in response to the needs of the most vulnerable in our community.
More than ever before, Baptist Care SA is seeking to work ‘together in mission’ with local Baptist Churches, by undertaking the tasks that local Churches would struggle to pursue by themselves. Increasingly, we are working alongside Churches that are seeking to respond to the needs of disadvantaged people in their local communities.
With that in mind, I was recently delighted to hear a Senior Pastor observe Baptist Care SA’s ongoing (but increasingly conspicuous) efforts to work collaboratively with local Churches. The Pastor made this comment following news that his Church was one of the first four Churches that will receive seed funding to help them embark upon innovative Collaborative Community Projects.
We congratulate the following Churches on their various initiatives and affirm the significance of their emerging ministries.
Richmond Baptist Church | Community Engagement with disadvantaged people in West Torrens |
Clovercrest Baptist Church | COACH Kids Mentoring |
Blackwood Hills Baptist Church | ‘Breakout’: Facilitating transition out of homelessness for young people |
Hackham Baptist Church | Hackham Connected Community Gardens |
Recognising our Lord’s call to respond to the needs of “…the least of these”, it’s encouraging to know that many more Churches (17 Churches to date) are in active discussion with Baptist Care SA about their ideas for future Collaborative Community Projects.
As a Christian community service organisation, Baptist Care SA recognises that trust, grace and forgiveness must be in the forefront of both our thoughts and actions as we endeavour to:
- Restore hope
- Overcome helplessness
- Reconnect people with things that are positive and life-giving (the restorative effect of the Gospel).
We are looking forward to working alongside more Churches as we seek to envision and grasp opportunities to forge transition pathways from adversity toward opportunity.
Churches are invited to make contact with Collaborative Community Project Officer, Ellen Beasy on M: 0428 864 486 or ebeasy@baptistcaresa.org.au to find out about future funding opportunities and discuss local community initiatives.
Let’s keep working together in mission to give people a reason to believe that tomorrow can be better than today.
Yours in Christ,
Graham Brown
