Once again, global mission, especially through Global Interaction, becomes the priority theme for Baptist churches for the month of May. However, this will look very different in 2020, as does life in general.
The current global crisis means adapting to a new normal when considering global mission and the resourcing of associated activities. The circumstances we are in could lead to an internal and national focus only, but I would encourage the Baptist communities in South Australia and Northern Territory to continue to partner with cross-cultural workers living by faith in some locations where people groups who need to encounter Christ.
The May challenge is to explore what is involved with being in step with Jesus, others and God’s mission. The Jerusalem Council deliberations in Acts 15 reveals how Peter, Paul, James and other disciples recognized what God was doing amongst the Gentiles and adapted accordingly so that they could enter the new community.
Out of crises, opportunities arise leading to innovation and creativity. The digital age is here and can facilitate contextual and adaptive responses. Global Interaction, as a result, is planning to creatively engage online with churches in South Australia. A few leaders and pastors from the movement in Australia will feature in video sermons and other short videos that churches can use online. There will be family and children’s resources too.
The feature resource is entitled ‘In Step.’ This beautifully produced twelve-minute short film shares the stories of three Yawo believers in Malawi and how God is using the Global Interaction team living amongst them. In watching the film, let’s celebrate what God is doing after a lengthy period of ploughing the ground and deepening our commitment to God’s mission locally and globally.
The State Office would like to help where requested and to hear your stories too. To access the film, other videos, studies and children’s resources, visit http://globalinteraction.org.au/be-involved/may-mission-month. A password will be required for the film and can be obtained via firstname.lastname@example.org.
May God raise new prayer warriors, new workers and new givers in South Australia through the mission focused activities in May and beyond.
