Local churches making change and adapting to a Global Pandemic
With the world being heavily impacted by COVID-19, and on a more local level, our churches coping with our communities staying at home, it can be nice to hear some good news stories! As South Australia looks to return to some sense of normality, it is worthwhile taking a moment to reflect on the initiatives, innovations and ideas that have sprouted in our churches.
Take a look at what some of the churches in our movement are doing!
Christies Beach Baptist Church
Christies Beach Baptist have expanded their services to people in need, which now includes shower and laundry facilities, food parcels, pre-made meals and breakfast packs. They also spend time listening to those who are accessing the services and are able to refer people to other services they might be able to access.
Grange Baptist Church
Grange Baptist used the money saved from Job Keeper to financially support people in the community who slipped through the government support cracks. They also took high-quality meals to community members who had been coming along to their programs. They also started posting a daily ‘pause for prayer’ on Facebook, which was a psalm, short reflection and a prayer filmed in an appropriate natural setting.
Many of our churches have also spent this period adapting to live-streaming technologies, something that they are able to continue offering once church meets back in person.
