What’s happening at
BLACKWOOD HILLS BAPTIST CHURCH
A lot is happening at Blackwood Hills Baptist Church and Village Churches! They run two Sunday services at Blackwood; one at 10am and another at 7pm, and two Sunday services with their Village Churches at 10:30am at Melrose Park and Norwood.
One of their major ministry focuses at Blackwood is Café 72, which is a community café that has been running since 2004. Café 72 opens 5 days a week, and serves 400 coffees and 400 meals per week to the Blackwood community. The café mainly runs on dedicated volunteer-power, and the church is thankful to those from the church who contribute their time and passion to such an important community outreach.
Blackwood’s youth group is large and strong, with numerous camps and trips on the go. Another way Blackwood Hills and Village Church Melrose Park seeks to support the next generation is through Kids Hope mentoring programs at both Belair and Edwardstown Primary Schools.
The Church also works hard to connect with their community at Christmas and Easter – they run large outdoor Christmas carol events at Blackwood and Melrose Park, and lead the local Christmas parade. For Good Friday, all 4 congregations combine and line the street on Coromandel Parade to watch ‘Jesus walk to the Cross’ into the church building. Those who gather then follow Jesus into the building.
Every church faces challenges, and Blackwood have shared that they are concerned about simply going through the motions, and becoming apathetic about their focus.
When questioned about where they see their church heading in five years’ time, Rev Brandon Chaplin said “You are never quite sure what God will do, but you can be sure we will seek to be salt and light. We seek to be as close as we can to the centre of the wider community. Who knows where that will take us? But we expect that we will be influential in our communities.”

Pray that the church will be united, passionate, supportive, determined and outward looking. The aim to persevere, remain enthusiastic and faith filled. They hope to “Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God”.
