What’s happening at Gateway Baptist Church
A lot has been happening at Gateway Baptist Church! With a new building and a rapid growth in numbers, we thought it would be great to see what they’ve been up to! Check out the article about Gateway’s new building here.
The ministries we focus on at Gateway:
Our Sunday service music prepares our hearts for worship, with gifted musicians and singers, who by Gods’ will have been brought to our church.
Youth and Children
Sunday Club programs are divided into four groups, teaching 50 children about Christ and the Bible– we offer youth church, upper primary, lower primary and preschool. On Friday nights, two youth programs teach about God’s love, and encourage relationships with each other and with Christ, while having lots of fun and games.
Missions, Compassion and Emergency Relief
Our church corporately sponsors the Smith family in Mozambique through Serving In Mission. We also sponsor the Brett family with Pioneer Australia, as well as over sixty individual Compassion sponsorships for children all over the world. Through Baptist World Aid, we sponsor a young South African girl. With giving and generous hearts, we also donate to emergency relief on a ‘as need’ basis.
The Lord loves a cheerful giver – 2 Corinthians 2:7
Small groups and teaching
Connect groups meet fortnightly in homes in a relational and encouraging environment and prayer nights allow corporate and personal prayers to align ourselves with God’s ultimate purpose. We also offer a program called Gateway Teach, which focuses on a deeper understanding of the Bible.
Where do you see these ministries will take the church to in 5 years’ time?
We are always in search of God’s will, however, we see these ministries bringing about church growth and ‘making us fishers of men’.
In 2020 and 2022, we will be sending a mission group to India, through APT International ‘Door of Hope’, and then to Indonesia.
Expansion into the community will be an important focus for us in the future. We hope to offer programs that will make us a shining beacon and a safe-haven for those who are seeking Him.
As our church expands, we realise there will be a need to develop leaders, especially spiritual leaders.
What challenges do you currently face as a church?
Due to the rapid changes in our church, our human resources are being stretched. It’s a great problem to have, but we would love the resources to move at the speed God is taking us. This relates to Children’s, Music and Spiritual, and other smaller ministries. God has provided a wonderful facility and we are currently discerning how we best utilise it for God’s purposes.
How can fellow Baptist members and leaders pray for you?
- Please pray for our leaders, as they seek God’s will for the growth of the church and how to best use our facilities for His purposes
- Please pray for the ministry leaders as they manage their wonderful volunteers
- Please pray for gifted and generous people to step out in faith
- Please pray for Jeremy Jaques and his family, as they juggle the many aspects of raising a young family and manage church commitments
- Please pray for the development of leaders to take us forward, in God’s name.
