We were thrilled to have over 210 young adults gather for ‘You Can’t Ask That: Does God Care?’ A night featuring four talks from young leaders in our movement, the event covered topics such as ‘Does God care who I sleep with?’, ‘Does God care how I spend my money’, and ‘Does God care what I do with my life?’
Possibly of even greater importance than the size of the group was that it was composed of people from twenty different Baptist churches across South Australia. It was wonderful to see representatives from the Chin Church in Elizabeth, Salisbury Baptist, Kings Baptist, Hackham, Victor Harbor, Grange, and The Port Church.
Young adults engaged with some of the key questions of faith and identity both in their attention to the speakers but also in discussion times with their peers.
The night began with worship, included great fellowship over amazing food, and concluded with prayer for one another in small groups.
Scott Berry encouraged attendees to consider the opportunities available to them and to find leadership and serving spaces within their churches. Scott highlighted the fact that young adults aren’t just “the future” but very much the present of the church.
Rachel Stevens (Young Adults consultant for Baptist Mission Australia), Reuben Salagras (Evangelical Students for those at university), and Steve Woods (Baptist World Aid) were available to connect with anyone considering leadership in those areas.
